This coming Monday night is the eve of the Chofetz Chaim’s yahrtzeit, the 24th of Elul (September 10), just one week before Rosh Hashanah—perfect timing for another Mishmeres Hasholom gathering. The local committee once again offers us timely spiritual uplift at its third annual chizuk event for men and women entitled “Who Wants Life?” featuring renowned Gateways speaker Rabbi Jonathan Rietti and our very own revered, beloved Rabbi Dovid Weinberger, mara d’asra of Shaaray Tefila. Kudos to committee chairman Sara Bodner for organizing this asifah for the third consecutive year, an event that is sure to pack the house once again.
Since 2000, Mishmeres Hasholom has been promoting shemiras halashon, avodas hamiddos, and interpersonal mitzvos around the globe. Jews on every continent subscribe to Mishmeres HaSholom’s daily halacha e-mail. Many of them report that after failing to keep up with the two-halachos-a-day schedule in the past, they are now finally able to do it with great ease. The laws are presented in concise, point form, which makes them easy to retain and take minutes to read. Program participants who prefer listening simply dial 718-887-9628 to hear a brief daily lesson on the shemiras halashon hotline. Many participants take advantage of the hotline’s expert rabbanim to receive guidance how to apply the laws of shemiras halashon and bein adam l’chaveiro in specific situations that they face in their everyday lives.
Mishmeres HaSholom’s monthly chizuk newsletter (both printed and e-zine format) inspires subscribers to improve middos such as ayin tovah, forgoing and forgiving, judging favorably, gratitude, and much more. To sign up for the daily e-mail and/or monthly e-zine or receive the hotline’s bais hora’ah schedule, e-mail email@example.com.
King David advises all of us who desire a good life—and don’t we all?—to guard our tongues and to seek and pursue peace. Here’s our opportunity for a spiritual boost in precisely this vital area at the upcoming Mishmeres HaSholom event on September 10, at Cong. Shaaray Tefila, 25 Central Avenue in Lawrence, 7:30 p.m., suggested donation $18, including a free copy of Peace Talk—a compilation of stories culled from Mishmeres HaSholom’s newsletters. Those who contribute an additional $50 to sponsor a day’s halacha e-mail have the added bonus of submitting two names for prayer at the Chofetz Chaim’s graveside on his yahrtzeit.
