On Sunday, March 3, Lander College of Arts and Sciences (LAS) in Flatbush held a ceremony to present the first Professor Faigie Wiederman-Francis Memorial Scholarship Fund award. Wiederman-Francis, a speech pathology professor at LAS for 12 years who specialized in working with hearing-impaired children, passed away three years ago at the age of 55. Her husband, Dr. Bruce Francis, established the scholarship in her name to support deserving students in the speech pathology program at LAS. Jenny Rokach, Wiederman’s daughter, is a practicing speech pathologist in Woodmere. Above, Dr. Bruce Francis (center) is surrounded by his 8 children and 12 grandchildren. Esther Schorr, the first recipient of the award, stands at far left in front of LAS dean and Touro’s vice-president for planning and assessment, Robert Goldschmidt.
