On Tuesday, November 25, the juniors, seniors, and Israel Advocacy Committee of HANC High School were privileged to hear from noted author Yossi Klein Halevi about Israel and his book Like Dreamers, the story of seven paratroopers who fought for the liberation of Jerusalem in 1967.
The students listened attentively as the author spoke about the stories of two characters in the book and about the situation in Israel today. His message to American teenagers was the importance of unity among all Jewish people as he compared being at the Kotel in 1967 to receiving the Torah at Har Sinai. The floor was then opened for questions prepared by the HPAC (HANC’s AIPAC) which was moderated by the committee’s chairperson, Elizabeth Frenkel.
Following the assembly, Yossi Klein Halevi met more intimately with the HPAC and Israel advocacy members in the library where students had the opportunity to ask the author questions and to discuss his views in dealing with issues in the Middle East. The students all found it to be very informative and interesting.
Thank-you to the author’s sister and brother-in-law, Karen and Glenn Cohn, parents of junior Jordy Cohn, for arranging this opportunity.
