The National Council of Young Israel (NCYI) today expressed outrage at reports that the Palestinian Authority (PA) is doling out substantial financial payments to terrorists that have been recently freed by Israel.
In advance of the current peace talks between Israel and the Palestinian Arabs, Israel agreed to release over 100 Palestinian Arab terrorists imprisoned in Israel. Most of these individuals are convicted murderers who have perpetrated heinous terrorist acts against innocent Israeli men, women, and children.
Palestinian Media Watch, a group that closely monitors the Palestinian Arab media outlets, cited comments made by PA Ministry of Prisoners’ Affairs Nael Ghannam, in which he explained the “grants” to the more than 50 recently freed prisoners, each of whom has served at least 20 years in jail. The amount of the grant is directly linked to the length of time that each terrorist has served in prison for his or her crimes. The payments range from $27,500 to $50,000.
In addition, it has been reported that the PA is giving each of the freed terrorists a monthly stipend that ranges from 8,000 to 14,000 shekels a month. To put it in perspective, the monthly national minimum wage as set forth by the PA is just 1,450 shekels.
Further, the National Council of Young Israel also noted that Palestinian Media Watch has reported that since April 2011, the Palestinian Authority has officially paid a monthly salary to all Palestinian Arab prisoners who are imprisoned in Israel for having committed terrorist acts. As per Palestinian Media Watch, more than 4,500 Palestinian Arab prisoners are garnering monthly salaries while they sit in prison. The “salaries” are paid out of the PA’s general budget, which is funded through countries around the world that provide aid to the Palestinian Authority.
“The idea that the Palestinian Authority is treating convicted terrorists as heroes is utterly repugnant and morally reprehensible,” said NCYI President Farley Weiss. “Throwing riches at unrepentant terrorists who have the blood of innocent Israelis on their hands is a despicable use of government funds.”
“Instead of using much-needed financial aid to improve their infrastructure and help their citizens, the Palestinian Authority is instead using the funds to bankroll terrorism,” continued Weiss. “This inexcusable and incomprehensible use of foreign aid should give pause to every one of the nations around the world that is sending funds to the Palestinian Authority. We urge each of those countries to demand an immediate end to these terrorist endowments by the PA before any future aid is released.”
