Young professionals from the worlds of medicine, business, and fashion gathered for a lively cocktail reception on New York’s Upper West Side recently to learn about Touro College and University System.

“The forum provided guests with an opportunity to network and discover Touro’s unique role as a respected worldwide institution of higher learning, its substantial academic resources, and its positive impact on the community,” noted Rabbi Alan G. Ciner, vice president of Touro College and University System.

The guest speaker, bestselling author and renowned psychotherapist Rabbi M. Gary Neuman, offered tips on building healthy relationships that encourage shalom bayit. Rabbi Neuman has appeared on The Today Show and Oprah, and is the author of How to Make a Miracle, Connect to Love, and the New York Times bestselling book, The Truth about Cheating.

A Miami Beach resident whose four children have attended Touro, Rabbi Neuman shared insights and user-friendly tips in his presentation, “All You Need to Know about the Opposite Sex.” Peppered with wry anecdotes and observational humor, his stories touched on the importance of communication, appreciation, and how couples can rekindle romance by practicing “dating after marriage.”

“On ‘date night,’ couples should not talk about money, work, or kids,” said Rabbi Neuman, adding, that it is important to “make positive gestures every day.”

Close to 50 professionals attended the event, including Sarah Braum, a faculty member at SAR Academy in Riverdale, who enjoyed Rabbi Neuman’s candor. “The speaker was a good choice for young professionals, as the topic relates to the most important aspect of all of our lives,” she said.

David Stern, managing director of Burnham Securities, appreciated the opportunity for social and professional networking. “Not only did I learn a lot about Touro College, but I met a group of career professionals that I will likely be in touch with in the future.”

Dr. Alan Kadish, president of Touro College, gave an overview of the university system’s innovative initiatives and its focus on higher education for lifelong professional careers. “Touro offers degree and graduate degree programs in law, medicine, pharmacy, education, social work, and business,” said Dr. Kadish. “In addition, as one of the largest health care educational systems in the nation, Touro is poised to play a significant role in changing the way that health care is taught and delivered.”

Co-chairing the event were David Kain, a project manager at Milagros Corporation, and Jennifer Marder, who is currently pursuing a degree in osteopathic medicine.

Another Young Professionals event was held recently in South Florida that was co-chaired by Brent and Jessica Levison and hosted by Jon and Susie Diamond at their home in Bal Harbour. Dr. Kadish was the guest speaker and engaged the group in a lively discussion about contemporary issues occurring on college campuses.

Rabbi Ciner said future forums will be scheduled in other cities and will “permit Touro, as an academic institution, to share its many resources with young professionals in communities throughout the states.”
