A New Chapter For A Beloved Rabbi: Rabbi N. Daniel Korobkin To Lead New Anglo Community In New Katamon, Jerusalem

Jerusalem’s dynamic landscape continues to welcome new waves of olim—and now, one of North America’s most respected rabbinic leaders is joining them.

Rabbi N. Daniel Korobkin, currently the senior rabbi of Beth Avraham Yoseph of Toronto Congregation (The BAYT), will be making aliyah to Israel and establishing a new Orthodox Anglo community in New Katamon, Jerusalem. This vibrant and more affordable extension of Katamon is quickly becoming a hub for English-speaking families looking to build meaningful, religious lives in the heart of Jerusalem.

With decades of rabbinic leadership, Torah scholarship, and community-building experience, Rabbi Korobkin is uniquely equipped to guide this growing kehillah. He was ordained by the revered HaRav Yaakov Ruderman, zt’l, of Ner Israel Rabbinic College and has led congregations in San Diego, Los Angeles, and Allentown, PA, before becoming the senior rabbi of the BAYT—one of North America’s largest and most dynamic Orthodox synagogues.

What makes Rabbi Korobkin such a perfect fit for Anglos moving to Israel is more than just his impressive résumé. He understands the mindset, concerns, and values of English-speaking Jews navigating the transition to life in Israel. His approachable style, intellectual depth, and genuine care for individuals make him a steady, reassuring presence for families planting new roots.

He brings a rare blend of deep Torah scholarship and broad intellectual perspective. With a Master of Science from Johns Hopkins University and a Master of Arts in Medieval Jewish and Islamic Thought from UCLA, Rabbi Korobkin is as comfortable discussing the Rambam as he is addressing real-life questions about faith, identity, and modern living in Israel. His annotated translation of Rabbi Yehuda HaLevi’s Kuzari, published by Feldheim, is a go-to resource for students of Jewish philosophy. His popular online classes on WebYeshiva.org continue to reach and inspire an international audience.

Rabbi Korobkin is also a proven communal leader. As a past president of the Rabbinical Council of America (RCA)—the largest Orthodox rabbinic body in North America—he is known for his ability to unite diverse communities and create inclusive, welcoming spaces grounded in Torah values. His move to Israel sends a powerful message: aliyah is not just for young families or retirees—it’s for leaders too. And his presence in New Katamon offers Anglo olim a rare opportunity: to be part of a warm, intellectually engaging community led by a rabbi who truly “gets them.”

The new shul and community being established will serve as an anchor for Anglos looking to put down roots in Jerusalem. Located within walking distance of Baka and Old Katamon, New Katamon offers tremendous value, a growing religious infrastructure, and a rare chance to shape a new Jerusalem community.

Shelly Levine, CEO of Tivuch Shelly Real Estate, understands that a shul is key to building strong, vibrant neighborhoods—a cornerstone that helps define and direct a community’s growth. With over 40 years of experience guiding Anglos through the homebuying and aliyah process, she continues to connect buyers with ideal communities where religious life can flourish.

Whether you’re considering aliyah now or are already living in Israel and looking for a community that feels like home, Rabbi Korobkin’s leadership in this new Jerusalem expansion project offers something truly special.
