Building A New Anglo Community In Jerusalem: Rabbi Korobkin To Lead New Katamon Project
Rabbi N. Daniel Korobkin, senior rabbi of Beth Avraham Yoseph of Toronto Congregation (The BAYT), will soon be making aliyah to Israel to help establish a new Orthodox Anglo community in New Katamon, Jerusalem. This exciting project is more than just a shul—it’s the foundation of a vibrant neighborhood designed for English-speaking families seeking meaningful religious lives in the heart of the city.
New Katamon, an up-and-coming and more affordable extension of Katamon, is quickly becoming a hub for young families and olim. Located within walking distance of Baka and Old Katamon, the area offers strong value, growing religious infrastructure, and now—through this new initiative—the chance to help shape a warm, intellectually engaging, Torah-centered community.
Project highlights include:
▪︎ Five towers; one- to four- bedroom apartments and penthouses within walking distance to popular Anglo communities
▪︎ Beautiful on-site shul
▪︎ Fitness center and residents lounge
▪︎ Café overlooking the park
▪︎ Underground parking with EV charging
▪︎ Stroller and bike storage
▪︎ Adjacent light rail station for easy access to the rest of the city
Rabbi Korobkin brings decades of rabbinic leadership and Torah scholarship to this effort. Ordained at Ner Israel Rabbinic College under HaRav Yaakov Ruderman, zt’l, he has led communities in San Diego, Los Angeles, and Allentown, PA, and most recently at the BAYT, one of North America’s largest Orthodox synagogues. His approachable style, intellectual depth, and genuine care for individuals make him uniquely suited to guide Anglos as they build new lives in Israel.
His scholarship and leadership are widely respected: he holds graduate degrees from Johns Hopkins and UCLA, authored an annotated translation of Rabbi Yehuda HaLevi’s Kuzari (Feldheim), and served as president of the Rabbinical Council of America. His international teaching presence and ability to connect across diverse communities highlight the caliber of leadership this project is bringing to Jerusalem.
Shelly Levine, CEO of Tivuch Shelly Real Estate, is spearheading the effort to connect families with this new community. “A shul is the heartbeat of a neighborhood,” she explains. “It’s where Jewish life begins, and from there the community flourishes.” With over 40 years of experience guiding Anglos through the aliyah and homebuying process, Levine sees this project as the next chapter in Jerusalem’s Anglo story.
For English-speaking families—whether making aliyah soon or already in Israel—this initiative represents a rare opportunity: to be part of a community from the ground up, with a respected rabbi and strong support in place from day one.
