DOGE Is Helping To MAGA

In the initial weeks of President Trump’s administration, he promptly implemented measures to secure our national border. President Trump aims for his legacy to be one of peacemaking, evident from his early focus on diplomatic relations. He also attracted significant attention from high-tech giants and leaders of industry, committing to investment in the United States. With the support of Republicans in the House and Senate, President Trump signed into law the Laken Riley Act, mandating the detention of illegal migrants charged with violent crimes. Additionally, the President issued an Executive Order eliminating Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives in the military and federal agencies, prioritizing performance-based hiring and advancement. He signed another Executive Order to protect girls’ participation in sports. Many Americans, including moderate Democrats and Independents, have supported these initiatives as they address issues that are of personal concern.

In Trump’s first forty-five days, he delivered on promises of common-sense governance, putting his focus on America First. However, local and national Democrats rarely acknowledge these successes. Instead, they criticize the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), which President Trump established to reduce federal spending, waste, streamline regulations, and modernize federal technology and software. Elon Musk and his team have been tasked with identifying and eliminating unnecessary expenditures with the aim to save taxpayer money and improve government efficiency. DOGE’s goal is to ease regulatory burdens on businesses and individuals and foster a more business-friendly environment that could stimulate economic growth. This concept has been successfully implemented in our region. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Supervisor Donald X. Clavin and I streamlined the Town of Hempstead Building Department’s application processes, embraced technology, and reduced governmental burden, meeting the expectations of our residents.

A 2024 report by the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) estimated annual losses between $233 billion to $521 billion due to fraud. Despite this, Democrats have actively opposed DOGE, portraying it as a scam and a threat to democracy and freedom. Contrary to these claims, President Trump and Republicans have made it clear that there will be no cuts to Social Security, Medicare, or Medicaid. DOGE has identified significant waste in these programs, including payments to deceased individuals and redundant benefits, which jeopardize the sustainability of these funds. It is perplexing that Democrats such as Laura Gillen, oppose DOGE, even though these inefficiencies threaten the viability of programs relied upon by many Long Islanders. Gillen appears to follow directives from her party leader, Hakeem Jeffries, rather than advocating for genuine reform.

All agencies need oversight. I support President Trump’s decision to involve experienced government employees with institutional knowledge as part of the DOGE team. Their commitment to effective governance ensures that budgets, departments, and workforces are managed without diminishing critical programs and resources. Democrats should support these efforts, but their reluctance seems driven by a desire not to grant success to Republicans. I also encourage the work of the House Oversight Committee, sub-committee—Delivering on Government Efficiency. Their work is crucial in exposing inefficiencies, waste, fraud, and abuse and will hold those responsible accountable.

In 1992, Clinton and Gore introduced a vision for a future-focused Democratic Party, running their campaign to Fleetwood Mac’s “Don’t Stop Thinking About Tomorrow.” After their election, President Clinton emphasized entrepreneurial governance, reducing federal employment by 12%, alleviating regulatory burdens, and encouraging departmental innovation. Unlike today’s Democrats, Republicans at the time did not incite fear or spread disinformation among vulnerable populations. Although some later questioned the extent of these reforms, the principle of efficient government was valid. The current reaction from Democrats, marked by falsehoods and fearmongering, seeks to rewrite the narrative and discredit President Trump and the Republican Party.

President Trump is dedicated to renewing American confidence in their government and committed to a safer, stronger, more affordable America. As DOGE cuts the waste and abuse, we will achieve that dream. Remember the Democratic campaign commercials and ads? They swore they wanted that too, but now they are protesting it. Democrats quickly forget their campaign promises. Republicans are keeping theirs. 
