When The Mob Rules And The Media Looks Away
By Congressman Anthony D’Esposito
What we are witnessing in Los Angeles is not a protest. It is not a demonstration. It is a mob—2,000 strong—shutting down the 101 freeway, igniting vehicles, waving foreign flags, and throwing downtown into chaos.
Self-driving cars are being set ablaze. Families are trapped in gridlock. Businesses paralyzed. Law enforcement outnumbered and under-supported. This isn’t about policy or dialogue—this is about raw, unchecked disruption fueled by anti-ICE radicals and open-border extremists.
And what are the mainstream media doing? They are spinning. They are softening. They are distracting. Suddenly, 2,000 radicals hijacking a major highway became a “peaceful protest” in the eyes of the left-wing press. Images of flaming vehicles and chaos were replaced with headlines about “tensions” and “expressions of frustration.”
Let me be very clear: if this had happened in Washington, D.C. or anywhere near a Republican stronghold, the coverage would have been apocalyptic, with headlines like: “Democracy under attack.” There would be primetime specials, handwringing, calls for congressional hearings, and demands for federal crackdowns. But when it’s a leftist mob in a Democrat-run city? It gets the benefit of the doubt—or worse, outright praise.
Democrats took a knee. When police precincts were set on fire, media anchors called it “fiery but mostly peaceful.” When violent occupiers took over Seattle, they called it “an experiment in community.” And now, in 2025, it’s clear the radical fringe has only grown bolder—because they’ve been enabled every step of the way.
These mobs are not just a threat to public safety. They are a threat to national identity. When demonstrators wave foreign flags while torching American streets, the message is clear: “We reject your laws, your values, and your nation.” And the silence—or worse, the complicity—from elected Democrats is deafening.
President Trump warned us. He put law and order first. He empowered ICE and CBP. He made it clear that American streets would not be ceded to Anarchists. His policies are called “divisive” by the left, but they work. He wants to be remembered as the President of peace—both at home and abroad.
This is why vigilance matters. What is happening in Los Angeles cannot be brushed aside as an isolated incident. It is a blueprint. And if we’re not careful, that blueprint will be used in cities across America, like Portland, Chicago, even New York. Even our suburbs are not immune.
It starts with soft-on-crime policies. It grows through the defund-the-police movement. It takes root with sanctuary cities. And it metastasizes when the media refuses to call it what it is: domestic chaos dressed up as activism.
The American people deserve the truth. They deserve leaders who will not bow to the mob, who will call out this behavior for what it is, and who will defend our streets, our sovereignty, and our orderly way of life.
This is about more than traffic or property damage. It’s about the rule of law. It’s about national security. It’s about whether we are a country that stands for order, or one that folds to chaos.
Just look at New York under Kathy Hochul. Her failed leadership and pro-criminal agenda have created a climate of fear and lawlessness. Felony assaults have surged, career criminals are back on the streets, and police are handcuffed by reckless bail reform and sanctuary mandates. Hochul has chosen radical ideology over public safety, and the results are devastating for hardworking families trying to live peacefully in their own communities. Kathy Hochul has failed the Empire State and must be fired in 2026.
As a proud NYPD detective, I know what happens when you let the streets rule the city. Good people get hurt. Criminals get bold. And recovery takes decades. We cannot let that become the new normal.
President Trump believes in peace—peace at home and peace abroad. But peace is not passive. Peace requires strength. It requires courage. And it requires a government that puts American citizens first.
Let Los Angeles be the wake-up call. Let the images of fire, fear, and lawlessness remind every American what’s at stake. We can either reclaim our streets, restore our values, and reinstate law and order, or we can continue to slide into a state of chaos where mobs rule and leaders retreat.
The choice is clear. The time is now. And under President Trump’s leadership, the fight to make America safe again is only just beginning. And I am thankful to be part of it. n
