A Last Chance

By: Larry Gordon

It’s a complex undertaking, but the importance of getting the job done right cannot be overstated. Iran poses a serious threat to the world, and this might be the free world’s last chance to alleviate themselves of the destruction and violence the radical Islamic regime in Iran has inflicted on the world.

We are accustomed to these internecine wars breaking out, only to have outsiders intervene to bring the fighting to an abrupt and inconclusive end. This has been the world’s agenda time and time again especially when it impacts Israel.

Up until this current conflict with Iran, the U.S. goal for Israel has always been for the far superior Israeli forces to fight their opponent to a draw. This means, according to the UN, to de-escalate the conflict and not use the overwhelming force the Israelis are capable of in their pursuit of a decisive victory.

The idea was for Israel to not beat their enemy using disproportional force because, for decades, the world’s goal was to maneuver Israel to the negotiating table so the U.S. and Europe could pressure Israel into making concessions to ultimately weaken the Jewish state.

That was the Obama-Biden agenda and even going as far back as Clinton, Bush, and Reagan. Some of the Secretaries of State over the years were just as bad or in some cases worse than the presidents listed. For example, there was Madeleine Albright, who pushed for the two-state solution, arguing it was the only way for the Israelis and Palestinians to live together. Ditto for Hillary Clinton. John Kerry, who served during Obama’s second term, said up until the Abraham Accords were signed during Trump’s first term that there would never be peace between Israel and the Arabs so long as there was no Palestinian State.

While Kerry was proven wrong, he still irresponsibly stuck to that position. In the meantime, it’s been decades since Israel signed peace treaties with Jordan and Egypt, and a few years since the Abraham Accords were signed, bringing the UAE, Bahrain, Morocco, and Sudan into agreement with Israel.

The Saudis were close to joining the Abraham Accords before October 7, 2023, and the theory is that the fear the Saudis would also sign is what pushed Hamas into attacking Israel. From the vantage point of war and destruction, Hamas successfully brought the peace process to a halt.

Now, this war with Iran might possibly be the region’s last chance to achieve anything of substance for peace going forward.

Let’s review for a moment the way the Obama and Biden administrations handled Iran and their commitment to not allowing them to possess nuclear weapons versus Trump’s first term up until the present.

Donald Trump said more than a few times that Iran cannot be allowed to possess nuclear weapons. Obama and Biden said the same thing, but like the Iranians, they were seeking to deceive everyone involved in the process.

Obama’s goal was to “verifiably prevent” Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon by “ensuring” its program remained peaceful, but a decade or so after the deal, Iran could legally possess nuclear weapons to do with as they pleased. Obama considered that a success, and when he said he would ensure that Iran would not possess the bomb, he meant it only for as long as the duration of his presidency. To that end, in his suave and casually dishonest fashion, Obama was able to say that Iran will not be allowed to build a weapon—but eventually they will be able to.

It was only when Donald Trump became president in 2016 that he successfully cancelled the agreement with Iran, knowing they would never adhere to anyway. And while we knew it all along, today this has been fully demonstrated.

Then there was Joe Biden, who no one knew (including himself) how he became president. What we do know is that his presidency was a paint-by-number version of the Obama presidential deception. That means sending billions of dollars to Iran (just like Obama) with the understanding that there would be no nuclear bomb, at least not for a little while.

These types of Democrat agreements included what they call a “sunset clause,” a provision that ensured that the temporary agreements and obligations would expire like the setting sun, at which point Iran could build whatever they wanted.

Fortunately, Trump and his foreign policy team were not going to fall for that, and we see now that Iran never had any intention of limiting their nuclear program, so they continued enriching uranium at Natanz and Fordow at breakneck pace.

Now, after these last few weeks, the world has a clear picture of what we are dealing with. This is a rogue, corrupt, extremist regime that was building multiple nuclear weapons and planning to fire them in the direction of their enemies in the near future.

And we know that none of these statements were just a form of rhetorical gymnastics. Terrorists are evil, but they tend to still very much mean what they say.

Neither Israel nor the U.S., that is Bibi or Trump, wanted a war. What they wanted was for Iran to give up enriching uranium to assure the world they were willing to live in peace without secretly stockpiling nuclear weapons. But then the IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency) reported in May 2025 that Iran’s cache of near-weapons grade enriched uranium had surged by 50 percent over the last three months, which brought them a step away from having enough enriched uranium for ten nuclear weapons, prompting the U.S. to launch Operation Midnight Hammer.

This current war is the last chance to lift the people of Iran from the oppressiveness under which they have lived ever since Jimmy Carter and Joe Biden said it was okay with them.

At this juncture, it appears obvious that under the present circumstances, had Iran possessed a nuclear weapon, they would have surely fired it. At this point, the leadership in Iran has to be done away with. The time for the Obama doublespeak game is long past, when leaders could assure us there were no weapons when indeed, there were weapons. As you can see, the hardline Ayatollahs and military officers absolutely refuse to move the country in a new direction.

The time is now to end the Iranian terror apparatus as we have known it. Israel and the U.S. must finally be free of these miscreants. This is the last chance.
