Champions Of Truth
Just like Dovid Cohen stated when we spoke the other day—this is not your Zaidy’s Algemeiner Journal. In fact, while it’s the name of a Yiddish publication of the past, today’s Algemeiner is shiny, new, and making an important and vital impact on the Jewish world, and even the non-Jewish world.
Though they are celebrating their 12th annual gala on March 9, the reality is that it could not be taking place at a more vital and auspicious time in the modern history of the Jewish people.
In fact, just last week, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu made the poignant observation that Israel is not just fighting wars on seven fronts, but on eight fronts, with the eighth being the media.
This is a battlefront where Israel has a great and uncompromising ally in The Algemeiner.
To that end, on March 9, The Algemeiner will be honoring what they refer to as the “J-100,” which is the top 100 Jewish influencers around the world, and those personalities do not necessarily have to be Jews, but rather unmitigated supporters of Israel and the Jewish people.
This year’s event will pay tribute to Argentine President Javier Milei. Both a unique and iconoclastic international leader, Milei has not only led Argentina’s resurgence on numerous levels, his unabashed support of Israel and the Jewish people may have isolated him in some ways, but you would be hard-pressed to find a man or woman who is prouder of taking such a position.
It is, in fact, a moving experience to observe Milei’s reaction while visiting Israel, the enthusiasm of the crowds greeting him, and the exuberant way he spreads his arms over the Western Wall as he prays for Israel and for peace.
Updating and changing The Algemeiner was the work of Rabbi Simon Jacobson, son of founder Gershon Jacobson, who foresaw that one day one of the most powerful enemies of the State of Israel and the Jewish people would be the media.

And that is where we stand today, fighting on this eighth front, as noted by the Prime Minister, who goes on to describe it as being the most cagey, evasive, and even dangerous of enemies. The website, Algemeiner.com, is a powerhouse of news and the objective truth that supports freedom, democracy, and the Jewish people around the world.
In addition to President Milei, other honorees at this year’s event include David Draiman, lead singer of the heavy metal group Disturbed. Draiman, who had an Orthodox Jewish upbringing, has been an outspoken advocate for Israel, particularly in the aftermath of the Hamas assault on October 7, 2023.
Also being recognized this evening is Boaz Weinstein, an American hedge fund founder and manager. Weinstein’s early career was with Deutsche Bank, which he left in 2009 to form Saba Capital Management as a separate hedge fund. As of August 2025, Saba managed $6 billion in assets.
Today, these are some of the personalities The Algemeiner draws and attracts. Last year’s honoree at the gala event was noted journalist, Douglas Murray, amongst a litany of very distinguished honorees and guests.
The new Algemeiner brings together leaders from government, academia, religion, and the arts. This 12th annual event, which will be highlighted by the presence of President Milei, promises to be one of their most outstanding events in its relatively brief history.
The Algemeiner has had several iterations since its founding by Gershon Jacobson over 50 years ago as Der Algemeiner Journal. Gerson worked very closely with my father, Rabbi Nison Gordon, and together they created a team of journalists that they could not imagine would evolve into the influential powerhouse The Algemeiner has become today.
