Lindsey Graham Memorial
Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina passed away two weeks ago at 71. It was actually quite a long and interesting service at the Washington National Cathedral in the nation’s capital. One of the obvious and stand out foreign leaders in attendance was Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel.
It seems that Senator Graham and the PM considered each other as close friends. Senator Graham was a man who prided himself in being on the side of what is right and just. Prior to the memorial service, Netanyahu met with President Trump in the Oval Office at the White House.
Ostensibly, the meeting must have been almost exclusively about Iran. Most interesting to observe were all the dignitaries milling about in the Cathedral, chatting amongst themselves prior to the start of the service. As far as I was able to see, it was Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth who was engaged in conversation almost the entire time with Mr. Netanyahu.
Hegseth was at the earlier Oval Office meeting along with Vice President Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and Israeli Ambassador Yechiel Leiter, among the Israeli delegation.
There was one spot in the pre-service conversation when we could see Mr. Netanyahu engaged in a talk with President Zelensky of Ukraine. It’s apparently an informal setting where a great deal can be accomplished.
It was fascinating to watch Israel’s Prime Minister sitting on the aisle of the fifth row behind President Trump, hearing the many speakers talk about the “G-d of Jacob” and “The new Jerusalem” and so on.
And most importantly and interestingly were the reflections on the life of Lindsey Graham, whose sister, Darline, is now going to take up his seat in the Senate though she will face an election in November in order to keep the seat.
