Who Must Bear The Blame?
By: Lee Weisbord
Please do not feign ignorance
as if you do not know
about the ten plagues in Egypt
that happened a long time ago.
Nowadays, when history repeats
the question is asked: Who must bear the blame?
It seems we have not learned anything
Oh, what a mighty shame.
The biblical forty days of non-stop rain
caused a vast destructive flood.
Frogs were jumping everywhere
and the water turned to blood.
Now, despite warnings of global warming
as the temperature steadily creeps higher and higher
a lack of worldly caring prevails
while Colorado burns with a raging fire.
Strong gusts of rainy wind
uproot trees with blackened crowns of leaves, bare and stark.
The dying trees sigh and curl up their roots
dark bleak tears slowly flow down their bark.
Are we somehow being punished?
The question still remains:
Since the world contains so much evil
who must bear the blame?
Are we being punished for all of the
Torture
Rape
Beatings
Bullets
Bombs
Guns
Knives
Kidnappings
Wars
and
Death
When world peace vanishes
who must bear the blame?
And all well-being is banished.
It is an incredible shame.
