Fischman Case Follow-Up
Aaron Fischman of Woodmere, New York and formerly of Jerusalem and Loch Sheldrake in upstate New York, had his hearing rescheduled last week to next Wednesday, February 11.
According to the Attorney General’s office in New York, the postponement came at the request of Fischman’s attorney, apparently as a result of his inability to produce the $1 million that he was sentenced to pay on December 15 as part of his Condition of Discharge of his case three years ago.
Fischman, his wife Nina, and members of his family, were charged and implicated in a long-running scam that resulted in defrauding hundreds of people for up to $70 million. He was charged with taking $22 million and finally pleaded guilty to taking $13.7 million from people at trial in 2022. In a plea agreement with New York State, Fischman agreed to pay $2 million over 3 years.
He paid the first million immediately after the guilty plea. The second million dollars was due on December 15, 2025 but no payment was made, resulting in Fischman’s arrest and imprisonment on Long Island.
Speculation is that he could not raise or produce the second million thereby satisfying his debt. Beyond that, reportedly the AG’s office is looking to sentence Fischman to a prison term based on information of his continuous fraudulent activity up until the day he was finally imprisoned.
Efforts to free him on bail has been rejected by the court as they determined that he is a flight risk and the possibility exists that if released he would take off for Israel or some other location. n
