Boca Community Unites To Celebrate Historic Hachtara Of Rav Yehuda Willig At Yeshiva Of South Florida

In a milestone moment of inspiration, pride, and achdus, the Boca Raton community came together recently for a momentous celebration as the community celebrated the hachtara (inauguration) of Rav Yehuda Willig as Rosh Yeshiva of Yeshiva of South Florida. The weekend brought together diverse members of the South Florida Jewish community in a powerful display of unity and shared commitment to Torah growth in the region.

Adding to the excitement was the presence of an extraordinary guest: Rav Mordechai Willig, RoshYeshiva at Yeshiva University, Rav of Young Israel of Riverdale (and Rav Yehuda Willig’s father), who flew in from New York to participate in this historic event. Throughout Shabbos, Rav Mordechai Willig spoke at multiple venues across Boca Raton, including Boca Raton Synagogue, Boca Jewish Center, and Young Israel of Boca Raton, sharing words of Torah and inspiration with the community that has embraced his son’s leadership.

The celebration culminated on Sunday evening with the formal hachtara dinner at Yeshiva of South Florida. The atmosphere was electric as community members, rabbanimroshei yeshiva, family, friends, talmidim, and supporters gathered to mark this significant occasion. Renowned musician Eitan Katz provided beautiful musical accompaniment, creating an uplifting atmosphere of celebration and simcha that resonated throughout the evening.

In his inaugural address, Rav Yehuda Willig articulated a compelling vision for the yeshiva’s future. Drawing inspiration from Parashas Lech Lecha, he spoke about the courage required to build something eternal and the sacred responsibility of transmitting Torah from generation to generation. “Every community that builds, every yeshiva that rises, is part of that same courageous response to Hashem’s call to Avraham,” Rav Willig shared. “We continue the work of Shem v’Ever, of Avraham Avinu, of all who came before, by building a place where the Shechinah can dwell here in South Florida.”

Rav Willig outlined his vision for a yeshiva characterized by warmth, friendship, and deep belonging: a place where every talmid feels seen, cared for, and inspired to grow not only in learning but in life. The goal, he explained, is for each talmid to become a true talmid chacham, whose learning shapes his mind and refines his heart. He emphasized that the yeshiva’s mission extends beyond its walls, aspiring to radiate Torah outward and elevate the entire Boca Raton community and beyond.

The event represented far more than the inauguration of a new rosh yeshiva; it symbolized the flourishing of Torah in South Florida and the community’s collective investment in the future. As Rav Willig noted, “We are living in remarkable times. Across America, Torah is flourishing in ways that once seemed impossible. And nowhere is that more evident than right here in South Florida, where families are yearning for Torah, where the light of Yiddishkeit is growing brighter every day.”

The success of the weekend’s events reflected the extraordinary support YOSF has received from founders Rav Efrem Goldberg and Ari Stern, the dedication of the yeshiva’s rebbeim and staff, and the embrace of the broader South Florida community. The diverse turnout, which included multiple shuls and backgrounds, demonstrated a remarkable spirit of achdus and shared purpose.

As the evening concluded, participants left with a renewed sense of purpose and excitement about the future of Torah in South Florida, inspired by Rabbi Willig’s leadership and the community’s collective dedication to this sacred mission.
