Refresh Your Skin: Make Time For Microneedling
By: Dr. Deborah Rothman
Summer leaves us with wonderful memories. Sometimes it also leaves us looking a little more closely in the mirror. Those fine lines are staring back at us and seem more noticeable. Your skin looks less even, or the glow you were hoping to keep has faded along with the season. If you have been thinking about a smoother, more refreshed, youthful looking complexion, now is a good time to explore microneedling. At AcuZen Wellness, the focus is on your skin, your goals, and a targeted approach to facial rejuvenation.
Microneedling uses a pen whose tip has fine needles that create controlled micro-injuries to the skin. This stimulates its natural repair response and collagen production. Collagen helps give skin its structure and support. As the skin responds you see an improvement in the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and uneven texture. The goal is a smoother, fresher looking complexion, not a different artificial face. Looking good can be part of feeling good, and taking time for yourself is something worth putting on the calendar.
At AcuZen Wellness, my approach includes custom-formulated skincare targeted to each client and their specific facial rejuvenation concerns. Because your skin is your own, the starting point is you!
Are fine lines your main concern? Uneven-looking tone? Texture? Or simply wanting to look a little more refreshed? My preference for natural, vegan skincare is part of that customized natural approach. A personalized plan is about more than choosing a product. It means discussing your goals, reviewing your skin and medical history, and deciding which products, treatment plan, and the aftercare for your specific needs which all deserve individual attention.
The customized skincare serums I incorporate include Swiss apple stem-cell ingredients for anti-aging and ridding of wrinkles, Xiang Gu (shiitake mushroom) for hydrating and providing luminosity, Lumos with algae-derived ingredients to rid of sun damage and age spots, and Oculus with seaweed-derived ingredients for dark under eye circles and wrinkles around the sensitive skin of the eye. My approach is to customize the selection around concerns such as the appearance of lines, uneven tone, or the delicate eye area, rather than give every client the same formula. There is no single promise that fits every face. The aim is to work toward improvements that matter to you, with realistic expectations and care suited to your skin.
LED red light therapy provides another targeted layer of care. In every microneedling session, I incorporate LED red light therapy directed at the face as part of my approach to facial rejuvenation. This uses light emitting diodes, rather than a laser, and complements the focus on your individual skin concerns. Research shows that red light LED therapy improves the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and helps skin look and feel smoother. It is a complementary treatment, not an instant transformation.
Age related and sunspots respond nicely to microneedling. They get significantly lighter and fade away with consistent treatment. A healthy-looking glow is our goal. It should go hand in hand with protecting your skin. No cosmetic treatment replaces daily sun protection. A broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher remains important after summer, too.
Microneedling is not an overnight transformation. Results take time. Improvement develops gradually as the skin produces collagen, and full results can take several months. A series of treatments is always recommended. Maintenance may be needed as the skin continues to age. The aim is gradual improvement through your skin’s own repair response. Give the process time, while making ongoing skincare and sun protection part of the plan.
Microneedling downtime is minimal! Redness, burning, and peeling can occur but usually subside within a few hours. This shows you the treatment is working and your body is working hard to produce collagen and elastin at an even greater rate. Your treatment will include both an individual assessment, as well as clear aftercare instructions.
If the aftereffects of summer have left you feeling down about your skin, now is a good time to make a plan. Make time for yourself and get started on your skincare journey today. Do not wait until the week before a celebration to ask what might help. Give yourself time to explore the incredible lasting benefits of microneedling done right.
