Questions We Must Ask Before Pesach
So here we are again, a few weeks before Pesach, and I find myself asking the same questions I ask myself each year when it comes time to prepare for Pesach. Why is it we save certain jobs till just before Pesach, jobs which have little to do with the yom tov itself other than making us feel better about how clean and prepared we are?
- How come we wait until just before Pesach to send for the rug shampooers to take care of our carpets?
- How come we wait until just before Pesach to take down our curtains and wash them? (Are they sparkling clean the other 51 weeks of the year?)
- How come we wait until just before Pesach to clean out our closets even though we know there is no chametz in them? (Of course, this only pertains to people who do not eat in their closets!)
- How come we wait until just before Pesach to clean out our garage? And how many people really have a chametzdig garage? (If the answer is “a lot,” what are you people keeping in your garages?)
- How come we wait until just before Pesach to start going through our children’s clothing to see what fits and what doesn’t? Don’t the children grow out of things during the rest of the year?
- How come we wait until just before Pesach to suddenly remember that we need to clean out and re-arrange everything in our closets? Don’t our closets need to be cleaned and organized the rest of the year?
- How come we wait until just before Pesach to bring in painters to freshen up or change the paint in their homes? And does painting over the chametz on our walls mean it’s no longer chametz?
Is post-Pesach the best time to put your house on the market? The answer is yes, since look how immaculately clean and organized every house will look after all the sellers finish cleaning them out pre-Pesach.
A happy and healthy Pesach to everyone!
